Italian Templars Stand Alongside American Knights Against the Political Use of Christian Symbols

The Templars Today Association APS takes a position against the exploitation of Christian symbols and unites itself with the protests of the American Templar Orders.

Rome, April 14, 2026 – In view of the recent international controversies regarding the use of sacred images and the Knights Templar in political propaganda, as highlighted in Italy by Dagospia, Magister Mauro Giorgio Ferretti, president of the Templars Today Association (APS), issued an official statement.  This stance comes in support of the criticism raised by the overseas Templar Orders who were struck by the improper use of millennia-old symbolism for electoral purposes.

Magister Giorgio Ferretti emphasized that this episode is merely the latest in a long series of abuses in which the symbols of Christianity are emptied of their original meaning, “We are witnessing today an unacceptable paradox: on the one hand, the faith and its martyrs are mocked or ignored within institutions, and on the other, that very same iconography is forcibly ‘enlisted’ to support political agendas that have nothing to do with the Gospel.”

“We cannot accept that the Cross and the figure of Christ should be reduced to mere advertising logos or instruments of propaganda,” Ferretti declared, “because for too long now Christian symbols and icons have not only come to be ridiculed amid general indifference, but they have also been instrumentalized globally for political and propaganda purposes.”

The Templars Today Association (APS), committed daily to protecting abandoned churches and in support of pilgrims in view of the Jubilee 2025, reiterates that the instrumentalization carried out in media and political contexts obscures the silent work of thousands of volunteers in Italy and in the world who work for the defense of human dignity and the Catholic faith without ulterior motives.

Ferretti’s call is directed toward the responsibility of those who hold communicative power.  Respect for religious sensibility should not be an option, but a prerequisite for civil coexistence.  The image of the Templar, for the Italian association, remains inextricably linked to the custody of that which is sacred and cannot be associated with messages of division or mere party affiliation.
